The great thing about online piano lessons is that you can start practising as soon as the class has finished when things are fresh in your mind, and energy levels are high. When I used to have piano lessons, I couldn’t wait to consolidate what I had learned and often wrote detailed notes to avoid forgetting things.

Although this is a vital skill that serious pianists must get used to, this can become a barrier for the novice or less confident musician. Unlike other instrumentalists, pianists often have to play on different pianos. The advantage of having piano lessons online is that family members can continue doing their own thing without worrying about picking up children or waiting for the class to end. Siblings often feel frustrated waiting in the car, and as a result, a lot of valuable after-school time is wasted. Nowadays, many parents are running from one place to another, taking children to sports practice, ballet, acting class, piano lessons!! If there is nobody to look after the younger brothers or sisters, they will also need to attend. Younger family members don’t need to attend the lesson The lack of travel time also allows students to warm up for the lesson and finish just moments before the class begins. With Zoom piano lessons students can avoid sitting in traffic jams and spend more time preparing for the class, with a cup of tea on the side! Consequently, they are often left feeling irritated. Many students who have classes after work have to deal with rush-hour traffic, so they waste a lot of time. Online piano lessons remove the necessity to travel. As both teacher and student have their own instrument, it makes it much easier to demonstrate, provides a more visual learning experience, and often the class runs smoother. One of the biggest benefits of Zoom piano lessons is that there are two pianos available. Here are some of the reasons why online piano classes are so great: In addition, I can email a score (that’s in the public domain), so both teacher and pupil have the same edition. Therefore, I can annotate the score in real-time, add fingering and highlight specific sections to discuss and rehearse.īefore the lesson, students enter the waiting room, and we start the class at the designated time.Īt the end of each lesson, I send detailed notes via My Music Staff outlining the tasks you need to complete for the following week. Zoom, Skype and RockOutLoud allow me to change the camera view quickly and share the score from my iPad. However, for Skype piano lessons, this is not needed. If you decide to have piano lessons via Zoom, I will put a link on your weekly lesson reminder.

In addition, I also have a high-speed wired internet connection and use a professional microphone. I use 3 HD cameras for my online piano lessons: one from the front, one from overhead and another to demonstrate pedalling. Meeting beforehand also allows us to talk about the ideal set-up, check the internet speed etc.
